Our Trip To Brazil This Past August

Welcome to Brazil!!!!!! .

My friend Claire and I went to Brazil this summer to hear music and experience the people, and we had a fabulous time.  Claire took a lot of pictures, and I kept a diary so that I could share my experiences with everyone.

We traveled 24 hours to get to Rio de Janiero from Denver.  After a brief rest in the hotel airport, we decided to hire a driver to take us for a tour of Rio before we had to leave the next morning.  Driving into Rio was amazing.  We drove by a huge area of shantytown which looked like (from the freeway) a giant and colorful patchwork quilt.  We got to the more modern affluent area, with high-rises everywhere.  It felt very cosmopolitan.  Our guide first took us to Corcovado mountain, and put us on a cable car which slowly wound up the side of the mountain to the top where the giant statue of Christ the Redeemer is, looking out over the bay and the city.

Next stop was Ipanema Beach, actually a pilgrimage site for me to see where the “Girl from Ipanema” was written.  We stopped in at the bar, where Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinucias de Moraeles sat and watched the beautiful Brazilian girl walk by on her way to the beach. (”Ah, but I watch her so sadly, how can I tell her I love her?…”.), and at the shop next door to buy a t shirt with the lyrics written on the front.
